South Australia Trade Trip Left ConatinerNegociants New Zealand’s annual trade tour of the Barossa with a group of twelve good folks from the New Zealand wine trade. The Barossa has a long and fascinating history with many tales to tell and our team was able to soak up those stories with visits to such iconic names as Rockford, Langmeil, Henschke, John Duval and of course our own Yalumba. Highlights were many, but a few worth mentioning were the time spent in the Yalumba cellars amongst their Riesling and Shiraz wines from the forties and fifties, along with the dinners in their underground tank rooms. The chance to see how wine used to be made, and still is at Rockford. A visit to the oldest producing Shiraz vines in the world at Langmeil, followed by a one-on-one lunch with the legendary winemaker John Duval, who’s own label is now considered one of the Barossa’s finest. Finishing a day’s tasting at The Hill of Grace vineyard with Henschke is not a bad way to finish a day either! Throw in an Italian cooking class, some fierce competition on the Vine Inn pool table, a few too many Japanese Slippers and some robust discussion around the merits of turkey fighting and it is fair to say a fantastic time was had all around.
